Kursbeskrivningar – BSc (Hons) International Production Management (Top-up)
This Top-up degree focuses on three key areas related to production: management, organisation, and production technology, including digital technologies. It offers a comprehensive understanding of how technical and organisational aspects interact in production processes.
Students will gain specialised knowledge about developing production systems, considering their global impact, and understanding concepts like Industry 4.0, the Toyota production system, Lean, and mass customisation.
Key subjects in the Top-up degree in International Production Management include production management, production systems, and lean production. The modules also cover topics such as operations strategy, digitalisation, IT management, and sustainability.
Business and Sustainability
The module aims to enable students to:
- Develop a critical understanding of current industry practice within corporate social responsibility influence and impact upon the planet, people and profit
- Develop critical skills required to offer informed contributions to strategic decision making
- Improve the delivery of sustainability targets in a cost-effective way alongside everyday business activities
Business Data Analysis
The aims of the module are to ensure that students:
- Acquire a thorough understanding of the approaches, tools and techniques of academic research within a business discipline
- Demonstrate a good understanding of the research process and research methodology, and the ability to use relevant information sources effectively
- Develop analytical and presentational skills such that they can write up their research study
Digitalisation and IT Management
This module aims to:
- Develop a critical understanding of the phenomena of digitalisation and its effects for private and public organisations
- Provide students with critical insights into the technological and managerial landscape that information technologies are building today
- Enable students to thoroughly understand how digitalisation affects organisations and how to manage the transformation of core processes as well as business models
Lean Production
The aim of the module is to:
- Develop critical understanding and convey applicable knowledge of Lean Production as a production methodology focused on eliminating waste, where waste is defined as anything that does not add value for the customer
- Provide students with an in-depth understanding of the concept of Lean Production and the relationship between philosophy, principles and tools of Lean in general and with manufacturing applications in particular
Operations Strategy and Management
The module aims to:
- Present students with a comprehensive overview of the major elements of operations strategy and management, covering how organisations achieve competitiveness and operational excellence
- Explore operations within organisations and across supply chains in relation to digitalisation and new technologies, sustainability and ecosystems
- Give students understanding and knowledge on the strategic management of operations in different types of sectors such as service, retailing and manufacturing
- Enable students to analyse operations systems as well as participate in, improve and lead change efforts
Production Systems
This module aims to:
- Provide students with critical knowledge about the development of industrial production systems for the manufacturing industry
- Develop in-depth knowledge about production systems and to give the students proficiency in design of production systems with focus on following established methodologies to reach organisational goals
- Develop fundamental insights and critical understanding for the need to focus on the development process as one way to achieve an effective and efficient production system, as described in theory as well as implemented in an industrial context
Dissertation
The module aims to:
- Encourage students to develop expertise in a specific business and enterprise area, and confidence in designing and managing a long-term complex research project
- Synthesise previous learning in the context of real-world management and explore and test at first hand the value of theory to modern managers
